What if I get my LPA wrong – will it cost more at Registration?
This is a significant reason to choose a professional to prepare your LPA. Registration of your LPA at the Office of the Public Guardian will cost you £82 per person per appointment. So, a married couple registering both Health & Welfare LPA plus Property & Affairs LPA they will have registration fees of £82 x 4, or £328! If you get it wrong you may be forced to start again from scratch, and a further cost of £328! Even minor corrects are charged by the OPG at a further fee of £41 per form per person. The file holds a detailed and thorough Advance Care Plan within a file that stores all your care needs and wishes. This combines with legal documents creating a CENTRALISED STORE for all the healthcare needs for your family and healthcare professionals. PLUS the file has preprinted the forms for a HEALTH AND WELFARE LASTING POWER OF ATTORNEY and an ADVANCE DIRECTIVE / LIVING WILL both of which provide free support and information via websites and free telephone consults. The forms are within the file so all you have to do is to complete and send off. NO PROFESSIONAL COSTS INVOLVED if you do not need to.

When preparing the forms, you may feel confident in completing the Lasting Power of Attorney form yourself and using the FREE support and guidance provided by the the .gov website and their telephone number. There are huge benefits of having this completed file if physical and mental frailty or full incapacity should arise. Your family will know exactly what to do and what your wishes are and so will your healthcare providers. Plus you will save the NHS and your local authority social services, quite literally millions of pounds in legal processes. You are protected by many laws and rules, such as under the Mental Health Act and this means applications may have to be made to the courts and Office of the Public Guardian by your family and/or social services and/or the NHS if you do not have the nessary legal documentation in place when you no longer have the ability to voice your wishes. This can mean needed decisions have to be delayed, time is wasted and it can be lengthy with significant costs to your family and/or NHS and LA will be incurred. This is not to ignore the additional stress and pain that could have been avoided. This file helps you to address this.
Costs for Lasting Power of Attorney or Advance Directive are often quoted low and shown as "from" leading you into higher fees you feel are unavoidable. A Lasting Power of Attorney on avarage will cost you £400 per Lasting Power of Attorney. An Advance Directive may cost you around £200 to £250.
